Sweet September Launch + Giveaway

Tuesday, November 26, 2013

Hello!! I am so excited to announce the launching of Sweet September on Etsy!  Hilary and I came up with the idea a couple months ago to do an Etsy shop.  Right now we are only offering a few hand crocheted items, but have plans to get many more items made and put on the shop!  Items like holiday wreaths and other holiday decor, and any other pretty things we can come up with!

We decided we wanted to open up an Etsy shop because we both LOVE crafting and making pretty things!  The name Sweet September was thought up by Hilary!  We wanted to do something with September in the title because our birthdays are both in September, plus we both LOVE the fall!  We're best friends, sisters and now Etsy business partners! I am so excited to start this new adventure!

To celebrate Sweet September, we've decided to do a giveaway!  I absolutely love this crocheted cowl.  I made myself a few different colors, and I wear them all the time!  One winner will receive a free scarf from Sweet September! Winner gets to choose the scarf color! So enter, and tell your friends! :)

Enter by following this blog, favorite Sweet September on Etsy or pin the image (or all 3!) and then use the giveaway widget to verify!

Ships only to the US.

Christmas Pictures Outfit

On Saturday,  my husband and I got some cute Christmas pictures taken!  We thought it would be fun to do for our first Christmas as a married couple :)  We absolutely LOVED our photographer, Chelsea Pett!  She was so fun to work with and was really good at directing us so we looked our best!  I am SO excited to get our pictures back!  Check out more of her work here! http://chelseaelenaphotography.weebly.com/
Sweater: Target
Scarf: Mindy Mae's Market
Polish: OPI Big Apple Red

Although it was sunny outside, there was freezing cold wind!
This is a picture my bestie Hilary took of us before we left the park,
Gavin has a cute red shirt on under his jacket, but was way too cold
to take it off again haha!  (Isn't he just the cutest?!!???)

The Olsen's also got Christmas pictures taken with Chelsea, so we
warmed up with hot chocolate at Starbucks after!

This is the preview shot Chelsea put up. I LOVE IT. I'm so excited to see the rest!

The Easiest Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies

Monday, November 25, 2013

It's Monday, and I'm already looking forward to the fabulous 4 day weekend ahead!  Thanksgiving is only a couple days away, which means the season of pumpkin flavored everything is coming to an end.  So to enjoy it while we still can, my mom and I made pumpkin chocolate chip cookies.  We aren't really "made from scratch" kind of people, so this 4 ingredient recipe was perfect for us!  They turned out really yummy!

All you need is a boxed spice cake mix, a can of pumpkin, 1/2 tsp Pumpkin Pie Spice and a bag of semi sweet chocolate chips!

Mix together the cake mix, pumpkin, and pumpkin pie spice.
Add half the bag of chocolate chips.  (You can add more if
you like them really chocolatty!)
Spoon the mix onto a greased cookie sheet, and bake at 350 for 15 minutes.
Simple as that! The cookies come out nice and chewy and delicious!
Pour a big glass of milk and enjoy!

Cake Mix Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies
      1 boxed spice cake mix
      1 can pumpkin
      1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1 bag of semi sweet chocolate chips

High Five for Friday!

Friday, November 22, 2013

Hello to all of you lovely people who are reading this!  Can you believe it's already Friday!? This week has gone by so fast!  I didn't have a super eventful week, but I did have some High Five moments!

1. On Sunday, I made the most delicious Pumpkin Trifle for Sunday dinner at the Stokes' house.  I can't believe I forgot to take a picture of that masterpiece.  It was so good, and very easy to make!  I will share the recipe soon!

2. I parallel parked for the first time. They didn't teach me how to parallel park in driver's ed.  I guess that's something you're supposed to learn how to do on the driving range, but I took driver's ed in the dead of winter, and there was so much snow on the range we weren't able to use it!  So luckily my bestie Hilary talked me through it, and I parallel parked beautifully.  Haha!

3.  I saw this quote on Pinterest and it has stuck with me all week!  I love creating pretty things.  I love doing crafts and DIY projects.  I love blogging.  I love to be able to share my words and my projects and I am so thankful for all of the support I have gotten since I began blogging.  I think all of these things are wonderful and fun, and I do them because I like to do them!  Not to get page views or "likes".  I love creating beautiful things because building on my talents makes me feel a sense of self accomplishment!
Yeeessss

4.  These books arrived this week, and I'm thrilled to start looking through them and learning all the amazing stuff inside! (Aren't books wonderful?!)

5.  I downloaded this awesome yoga app!  It is so wonderful!  More on that coming in a later post!

I hope this week has gone by quickly for everyone! I'm so excited it's the weekend! I have lots of fun plans!!!

Tribal Print Cardigan

Wednesday, November 20, 2013

Let me start this outfit post with a GRIPE about winter.  How in the world am I supposed to take outfit pictures with good lighting if the sun goes down before I even get home from work?!?!  Annoying.  So the next few cold, dark, months, I will be figuring out how to take pictures with good lighting inside.  If anyone has tips for this little problem, please share! :)

Now for the good stuff!  This cardigan is called "Must Be Love Cardigan"... The name fits, because I am IN LOVE with this tribal print cardigan.  It is so comfy and warm!  I love how it fits, it's flowwy, but with tight sleeves so you don't look like a shapeless blob.  Plus it adds some color to my wardrobe!

Must Be Love Cardigan: Head Over Heels hohshop.com
Ring and Bracelet: Charming Charlie's

Tuesday nights, I have dinner at my parents house.  We always get Cafe Rio or Zupas and my mom and I catch up on whatever show we are obsessed with at the time.  Usually it's Pretty Little Liars (guilty pleasure) right now it's Revenge! (another guilty pleasure)  No matter how old I get, I always need some "momma loves".  My mom and I have always had a really close relationship, and I love living close enough that we can still see each other often!!  Plus I get to play with the feline friend!

Cutest cat in the world!!!

Love my momma!
I hope everyone is having a fabulous week so far! Can you believe Thanksgiving is next week!? Where has this month gone?!

High Five for Friday!

Friday, November 15, 2013

Hello on this rainy/snowy Friday!  I'm okay with the weather changing to snow now that we've made it to the middle of November.  (It was warm enough earlier this week that I didn't even need a jacket, and now I've whipped out the big winter coat.  Good job, Utah!)  Am I the only one that so desperately wants to put up the Christmas decorations???  Christmas season has always been my favorite time of year, but now that I have my own place with my own brand new, adorable Christmas decorations, I'm sooooooo anxious to decorate!  Now for the High Fives!

 1. Me and the bestie got season tickets for Ballet West!!! This year is their 50th anniversary.  Our first ballet of the season was Firebird.  It was incredible.  I absolutely love the ballet!  If you've never been, you're missing out.  No matter what age you are, there is something magical about the ballet.  Those dancers are so talented and beautiful, it will make you want to be a ballerina! Ballet West has a show on CW called Breaking Pointe, it's wonderful.  So while we were watching Firebird, we recognized so many of the dancers.  We "Geeked Out" big time, these are our celebs!!!

 2. On Sunday my husband and I had dinner at my parent's house, which meant spending some time with the feline friend.  We made a video of her playing with some string and then I left my phone on the counter with the camera still open.  Lillie decided to walk all over my phone and this hilarious picture happened.

 3. I had a brilliant idea for an easy work lunch this week.  Turkey, cheese and crackers.  It was like a grown up lunchable.  It was delish!  Plus I found these convenient little boxes at Target! They are similar to those Bento Boxes that I've seen on Pinterest, but way cheaper!

 4. The hubs and I had our first Egg Nog of the season!  It was delicious and tasted like Christmas!  Which added to the feeling that I want my Christmas decorations up right now!!

 5. My November Birchbox arrived!!! My mom sent me this picture of Lillie keeping it safe until I pick it up.  (Two cat pictures in my High Five?!...You're welcome.)

linkup!

Hope everyone had an amazing week!  Finally the weekend is here!!

Easy Baked Ravioli

Thursday, November 14, 2013

Today I tried a new recipe! I saw a couple different versions of this recipe and adapted it to make a smaller size since it's just the two of us!  But you can easily double it and make a bigger size!  This recipe is so simple! There's only 3 ingredients!!
(Full recipe at the bottom of the page.)

Frozen Ravioli, Jar of Marinara, Mozzarella Cheese.
Bought all of this at Target for less than $8.00!

Layer frozen ravioli (no extra prep needed!) in a 7x11 in baking pan
Cover with 1/3 of the jar of sauce, and top with mozzarella.
Add another layer of ravioli, top with the rest of the sauce, and more mozzarella.

Cover with tin foil and bake at 400 for 25 minutes, uncover and continue baking for 5 minutes, or until cheese is melted!

Easy Baked Ravioli
1 Jar Marinara Sauce
1 Cup Mozzarella Cheese
1 Bag Frozen Ravioli

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Place one layer of frozen ravioli in a 7x11 in baking dish. Layer 1/3 of the marinara sauce and half of the cheese.  Place another layer of ravioli, pour the rest of the marinara sauce, and top with cheese.
Cover with tin foil and bake for 25 minutes. Uncover and continue baking for 5 minutes.

So simple to throw in the oven on a busy evening!  I love that you don't even have to prep the ravioli, it goes in frozen! Quick and yummy!!

Layered Cardigan & Chambray

Wednesday, November 13, 2013

This is my new favorite outfit! I love a cardigan over a chambray.  This is the first time I tried the combo and I love it!  I learned something about layering today: it's easy to obsess over getting everything to lay just perfect.  But at some point, you have to just step away from the mirror!  Layers always sort themselves out!  So don't change your outfit, just step away from the mirror!

Chambray: Charlotte Russe
Cardigan: Bohme
Necklace: Charlotte Russe (old)
Shoes (favorite flats!!!): Target
Polish: Essie-Watermelon

If you've never layered a chambray and a cardi, do it!!!

Re-routing

Monday, November 11, 2013

So a few months ago, the thought popped into my head: I want to go to school for fashion design.

That's how quickly I decided, and it took one thought, one second, to become obsessed with the idea of fashion design school.

Here in Utah, there are only 2 schools that offer a fashion design program.  So I chose Salt Lake Community College.  I got all registered, took the necessary tests.  I was ready to go.  The closer it came to class registration day, the more excited I got about taking fashion design classes!  FINALLY  the day came.  I logged on to the school website, ready to figure out my exciting new schedule.  I quickly realized that there was no way I could make this work.

The schedule for classes is unreal to me.  All the classes are taught at the same time. Each class is 3 hours, once a week.  9-12 or 7-10pm.  Who can make that work for their schedules? Certainly not a poor newlywed that needs to work as much as possible.  Talk about bursting my bubble.

As I came to the realization that fashion design school was not going to happen, I was a little (okay a lot) heartbroken!  I cried a little more than I care to admit haha.  But after a diet coke (or 20) I told myself I had two options.  1. Cry and be mad and give up on a dream I was EXTREMELY excited about.  or 2. Make this dream happen a different way.

Well. Quitting really isn't my style.

When I decided to go to fashion design school, I didn't really have an end goal in mind.  All I knew what that I LOVED fashion, and wanted to learn more about it.  Pattern making, fashion sketching, sewing, designing beautiful clothes, I loved the idea of learning about all of these things.  Then the thought popped into my head.  You don't HAVE to go to school to learn about those things.

My solution: teach myself.  I won't be able to go to school, which is so sad. Because I LOVE school (geek alert).  But I can still learn more about fashion and designing!  So I've ordered a book on fashion sketching and a book on pattern making.  I'm going to take what I can learn from these books (and as many others as I can get my hands on) and run with it. And I'm SO excited.

The reason I called this post "re-routing" is because sometimes I like to think of prayer as a GPS, and Heavenly Father as the navigator.  (Stay with me, I promise this is going somewhere!)  In all things, God leads us. When we pray, it's sort of like typing an address into a GPS.  When we listen to Heavenly Father telling us which way to go, we get to the place we need to be.  Sometimes we try to do things our own way, we have a plan, we think we know the route.  But then unexpected troubles pop up, and we have to "re-route".  Following Heavenly Father's voice, we will end up where we need to be.  I know he has a plan, a perfect plan, for each and every one of us.  So when troubles or trials arise, re-route. Don't turn around and go home.

I'm excited to embark on this new adventure in fashion design. :)

Crock Pot Taco Soup

Tuesday, November 5, 2013

Taco Soup is one of my favorite recipes!  It's so easy and DELICIOUS!  Perfect for a cool fall day! (I love this soup all year round!)  This recipe works great as a freezer meal or warms up nicely for leftovers!  I love Crock Pot meals because it's so nice to just throw all the ingredients in, and let it cook while I'm at work!  If you have great Crock Pot meals, share them in the comments! :)

Crock Pot Taco Soup

2 Cans Black Beans-rinsed
1 Can White Beans-rinsed
2 Cans of Corn--or 1 Bag Frozen Corn
1 Can Diced Tomatoes
1 Small Can Diced Green Chilies
1 Can Chicken Broth
2-3 Large Chicken Breasts

Mix all canned ingredients in Crock Pot. Stir in taco seasoning and ranch dressing mix. Place chicken in Crock Pot and cover with other ingredients. Cook on low for 6 hours, shred chicken after 5 hours. Super easy! Enjoy!

*My husband loves to add shredded cheese and sour cream to his soup!

High Five for Friday

Friday, November 1, 2013

Friday is a day to reflect on what I've accomplished throughout the week, and also a day to fantasize about what a wonderful, nap-filled weekend is ahead of us :)  This is my High Five for Friday link up!! :)

High Five Moments of the Week

1.  I got to spend some time with the bestie for our weekly tradition of #sistersaturdays.  We went to our favorite sushi place!  We made some good progress on a secret project we are working on! (The secret project won't be secret for much longer!)

2. The husband and I went on a double date with these lovelies!  To our favorite Red Robin and the Corn Maze!! I haven't been to the Corn Maze for years. It was so much fun!

3. I have been working more on some fashion sketches on my iPad. It's been tricky trying to figure out how to digitally sketch, but I love it and I'm excited to practice!!

4.  Started working on another crochet project! This time it's a comfy slouchy cowl scarf. I love it already!

5. Last, but not least, a Jack-o-Lantern pizza on Halloween night!

Hope you all had some high five moments this week! :)
